Another good idear to use these crocheted fish appliques/ coasters is to put them in a photo frame. Then you can hang them up on the wall as decorations too.  
The pattern is written using standard American crochet instructions. It has step by step writtern instructions and a lot photos. In addition to that, it also has  crochet charts to help you along as well. It is a beginner-friendly pattern.
